JERSEY CITY, N.J. — A woman was arrested after stealing firefighting gear, posing as a firefighter and then robbing a convenience store.
Police arrested Sabrina Carter, 48, after she led them on a chase through residential yards while she stripped off the stolen gear. Officials believe Carter stole the gear earlier this week. Firefighters were inside the station when the incident occurred, but no one witnessed the theft.
A fire captain said the thief, later identified as Carter, stole a jacket, boots, pants, helmet and a flashlight from the rear of a fire truck parked outside the fire station Wednesday, reported NJ.com.
The owner of a convenience store said Carter arrived in full PPE and told everyone to leave the building and that she was investigating a gas leak. Carter had a large knife in her possession and stole several lottery tickets before fleeing.
Carter was charged with burglary, robbery, theft, weapons charges and impersonating a public servant.
