ST. LOUIS — The widow of a St. Louis firefighter has received more than $40 million after a company that made fire safety equipment lost its appeal.
Attorneys for the survivors of Derek Martin confirmed the award to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Tuesday.
A jury in 2007 awarded Angela Martin and her children $27 million in a judgment against Survivair Respirators Inc. and its parent company, Bacou-Dallloz S.A.
Martin's attorney said at trial that the company had known for years about a product defect but failed to warn fire departments. Derek Martin and fellow firefighter Rob Morrison died in a fire in 2002.
